About Us
Since 1968
In 1968, a group of enthusiastic, thrill-seeking skiers took their energy and love for the sport from Coxheath to the beautiful hills of Ben Eoin. Their mission was to develop a ski facility for local residents, as well as the visiting public.
Through the group’s dedication and tenacity, along with funding assistance from the Cape Breton Development Corporation, community support groups and private donations, their dream became a reality with the official opening of Ski Ben Eoin. Membership dollars were adopted as a vital element in maintaining Nova Scotia’s only not for profit community ski operation.
Through the formation of the Cape Breton Ski Club many projects have been planned, implemented and completed. These include hill lighting for night skiing, additional ski runs, upgraded snowmaking, grooming equipment, a remodeled chalet and warming area as well as new ski and snowboard rental equipment.
Even today, our history continues to write itself as volunteers aid in the development of innovative products and services for our members and guests, not to mention the generous efforts over the years of a volunteer board of directors.
Thanks to the support of our members, we are able to provide alpine skiing, snowboarding, nordic skiing, snowshoeing and winter tubing. We also offer a full range of snow school programs for children and adults, private lessons and group lessons for schools, community and corporate groups.
Our Facilities
Chalet Cafe
Visit our Chalet cafeteria for a hot meal, snacks or grab and go menu items from our express takeout window. We offer hard and soft seating areas as well as washroom facilities.
Licensed Pub
The Broken Buckle pub is located in the west wing of the chalet. Come on in for a specialty drink, a hearty meal, or relax with friends over some delicious appetizers. We host weekly entertainment and special events throughout the season.
Customer Service & Retail Store
The Snow Depot located inside the front entrance of the main chalet is our customer service hub including our retail store.
We have everything you need for the winter season. Let us help to outfit you from head to toe including helmets, goggles and our own custom SBE apparel.
Purchase lift tickets, tubing passes or memberships, book a private lesson or pick up a gift card for a friend or family member.
Warming Area and Rental Building
Our rental building located to the east of the main chalet houses our equipment rentals and repair shop as well as our seasonal locker room.
The building also offers a warming area for members and guests to put on their gear and a storage area for shoes and personal belongings.
Equipment Rental & Express Ticket Window
Whether you purchased your equipment rental online or onsite, one of our technicians will set you up with the gear that’s right for you. Online lift tickets can be picked up at our express ticket window located just outside the entrance to the rental building.
Repair Shop
Our repair shop helps keep your equipment maintained all season long. From basic wax & sharpen to binding installation & remounts, we’ve got you covered.
Snow School
The Snow School at Ski Ben Eoin offers a whole range of programs as well as private and group lessons for ages 3 to 103!
We offer daily, nightly or weekly lessons.
There are 30+ instructors on staff to help you improve your skills, whether you are brand new to the sport or looking to up your game.
All of our instructors are CSIA, CASI, CADS and/or CSCF certified.
